Deadline for World Masters Track & Field Registration is Sunday
The World Masters Athletics Championships (AKA World Masters Track & Field Championships) are coming to the good old USA this July, for the first time since 1995.
As exciting as that is, you should be thrilled to pieces to know that they will be held right here in River City! (Right here!)
I know what you’re saying: “But I’m only 37! I’m too young to be a masters athlete!”
Well, fortunately for you, you sprightly younger person, for purposes of the Masters Track & Field World Championships, a masters runner is anyone 35 or older!
But most important for you, since you’ve already no doubt waited until the last minute, registration closes this Sunday, April 24th at midnight.
There are no qualifying standards for these events, so you really have no excuse not to run. I’d also love to see some big crowds come out to watch these events. We’ll have thousands of athletes, from around the world, visiting our beautiful city. Let’s show them how much we appreciate this sport!
Finally, another important note for some of you is that unlike the National Masters Championships, there will be doping controls at the World Masters Championships.
WMA and the Sacramento LOC have enlisted the services of the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) to conduct drug testing as
part of the WMA Stadia Championships. Drug testing will be conducted under the IAAF/WMA Rules that comply with the provisions of
the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Any athlete may be chosen for testing. The procedural guidelines established by WADA are strictly followed in the testing of all
athletes.
See you in July!
