Shamrock’n the Half Marathon
On Sunday morning, under perfect running conditions, more than 6,000 runners lined up at Raley’s Field in West Sacramento for the start of the 9th Annual Blue Diamond Shamrock’n Half Marathon.
Fresh off his win at the Napa Marathon, Kevin Pool, 30, of Folsom, bested all comers to win in a solid 1:08:23.
Coming in second was Ryan Delgado, 26, of San Francisco, with a time of 1:10:05, and Wesley Szehner, 25, of Sacramento, was third in 1:10:29.
The first woman was a speedy Chantelle Wilder, 27, of Los Gatos, who took it home in 1:17:15.
A few minutes back was Hayley Oveson, 24, of Sacramento, who took second in 1:21:38. After another few minutes, Suzi Harvey, 50, of Sparks, Nevada, finished third in 1:25:37.
The top masters man was Mason Myers, 43, of Carmichael, who finished in 1:15:30. Rounding out the top three masters men were Jacob Nur, 55, of Elk Grove, in 1:19:06, and Jim Harvey, 50, of Sparks, Nevada, in 1:21:17. (Hmm…)
The top masters woman was Suzi Harvey, 50, of Sparks, with her previously mentioned 1:25:37. Second masters honors go to Shana Brown, 42, of Dutch Flat, who ran 1:26:31, and the third masters woman was Sacramento’s Stacey Worthen, 40, who finished in 1:27:34.
I’m used to seeing fast 40-year olds, but seeing all these fast runners in their 50s gives me hope!
