Conflicts on the Parkway!
This morning’s Sacramento Bee once again takes up the issue of conflicts on the Parkway, noting that increased use leads to increased conflict.
There is more information here about the County’s plans for restoring order, and I’m struggling to argue with any of it.
This does seem rather basic. Basic physics, perhaps?
“We’re talking about physics here, really,” said Chief Ranger Stan Lumsden. “The more people using the trail, the more conflict.”
It’s a decent story, but a familiar one to those of us who use the Parkway with any regularity. One thing that wasn’t mentioned was the impending Tour de France.
Starting next week, Tour de France bike racing coverage will flood the “airwaves” and if history is any guide, aggressive, unskilled cyclists will flood the parkway for the next month.
Let’s be careful out there and re-read my rules.
You, the rangers, the Bee, and . . . even the commenters on the Bee website offer reasonable advice. We can only hope the right people are listening.
1I have noticed the Tour de France effect, too.
