Sanchez Posts Fast Finish at the Susan B Anthony 5K
On Saturday morning, nearly 400 women lined up for the start of this year’s Susan B Anthony 5K in River Park.
Now on it’s 38th year, the Susan B. Anthony 5K, hosted by the Buffalo Chips Running Club, is the region’s longest-running women’s race.
Racing in picture-perfect weather (for August), Ramona Sanchez, 36, of Sparks, Nevada, dominated the field to win with a speedy 17:23 finishing time.
Leanne Jarvis, 17, of Yuba City, was second in 18:58, while Mary Kriege, 20, of San Jose, finished third in 19:28.
The first masters finisher, and fourth overall, was Becky Kriege, 46, of San Jose, who ran a 19:28. Rounding out the top-three masters runners was Rancho Cordova’s Debbie Zakerski, 51, with a 20:58, and Catherine Carbonara, 47, of Loomis, who finished in 21:07.
For the record, Sanchez’s winning time is the fastest finish since Kim Conley’s 2008 time of 17:14.
It should also be noted that two prior winners of this race–Kim Conley in 2008, and Magdalena Lewy-Boulet in 2007–went on to represent the USA at the Olympics.

John:
Nice article, nice weather, nice photos from the Steves.
Cleaning the rental truck . . . what a concept.
The attachment on the lawn rake looks like a pair of running shorts I had in 1978.
Congratulations to all.
1Were those your shorts?
2No, I don’t think so.
They look a little large for me in 1978 and mine were more worn out.
