Mo Bartley Needs No Excuse
On Saturday, several hundred runners kicked off the Memorial Day weekend with a run of the No Excuses 5K, Sacramento’s long-standing, age-graded race.
The key to winning this event is to be unusually fast for your age, and this year it was Mo Bartley, 59, of Auburn, who hit that sweet-spot and trounced all comers with a 20:44 finish that age-graded to 14:11.
Finishing in second place was Janice Kesterson, 60, of Oakdale, with a 21:07 that age-grades to a 14:15.
The first across the finish line was Rocklin’s Charlie Brenneman, 36, who ran a 15:21, which age-grades to a third-place 14:56.
After Brenneman, the next overall fastest men were Sacramento’s Osamu Tada, 33, with a 15:43, follow by Reno’s Jeffery Moreland, 37, in 16:05.
The first overall female finisher was Sarah Raitter, 41, of Reno, who covered the 5K in 18:07.
Raitter was followed in by Roseville’s Kate O’Sullivan Messerli, 33, who ran a 19:43, and Alize Hartke, 14, also of Roseville, who finished in 19:44.
