Local Masters Win at Humboldt Half Marathon
On a lonely stretch of the Avenue of the Giants, in Humboldt County, hundreds of Northern California’s fastest runners met up for the Humboldt Redwoods Half Marathon, a PAUSATF grand prix event and the PAUSATF Half Marathon Championship.
For a half marathon run through the scenic but empty redwood forest, the times are typically remarkably fast, and this year was no exception.
Largely running alone, San Luis Obispo’s Sean Davidson, 23, outran the field with a 1:05:21 performance.
Phil Reid, 29, also from San Luis Obispo, was 2nd in 1:08:06, and Ryan Irwin, 31, of San Francisco, was 3rd in 1:09:42.
For the women, Amy Schnittger, 25, of Watsonville, was the big winner in a time of 1:17:25. Schnittger was followed in closely by Liza Reichert, 28, of Los Altos Hills, in 1:17:48.
Coming in 3rd woman, fresh off last week’s win at Willow Hills was Ashley Carroll, 32, of Menlo Park, in 1:18:54.
Local runners were dominant in the Masters divisions, with area runners taking both men’s and women’s titles.
On the men’s side was Sacramento’s Chris Knorzer, 46, of Rocklin, who ran a pretty speedy 1:12:44.
For the masters women, the winner was Sacramento’s Jaymee Marty, 48, who blistered the course in 1:24:10.
